Sonnet 1
Standing in the shadow of love, I saw
The surface of a lake shining like gold,
And felt my heart break, like I was told
Would happen if I chased him anymore.
I saw a petal fall which, in my heart, tore
The love that he had given me that day,
And it was then that I knew he would pay,
Some day, for the one he had left me for.
The darkness of the shadow I stood in,
Enveloped me completely as I gave
Myself to the evil I felt within,
And began to walk down the path it paved.
As I walked away from the light behind,
Who could know what the darkness had in mind.
